Simply Scratch

()

Price: $12.87

From the popular blogger behind Simply Scratch comes a debut cookbook showing how to home-cook absolutely everything from scratch. For Laurie McNamara, growing up on a farm in the country had major perks: her mother cooked with vegetables from the family garden, they collected fresh eggs from the chicken coop, and absolutely everything?from ketchup to casseroles?was made 100 percent from scratch. When she moved away from home, though, McNamara was too busy working full-time and raising two kids to prepare from-scratch meals. Like most Americans, she relied on boxed brownie mix, canned soup, bottled dressings, and frozen dinners to make home cooking quicker and cheaper. But she soon learned that these so-called shortcuts were in fact both more expensive and light-years less healthy than simply making everything herself. Eventually, she?d had enough and vowed to remake her kitchen into a from-scratch kitchen. Now, four years later, McNamara has helped hundreds of thousands of home cooks prepare from-scratch meals with whole food ingredients through her blog, Simply Scratch. McNamara?s highly anticipated debut cookbook, Simply Scratch, takes her home-cooking know-how to the nation, with 120 wholesome, mouthwatering recipes along with stunning photography, entertaining anecdotes, and personal musings. This book offers easy recipes for delectable concoctions such as Buckwheat Pancakes and Creamy Roasted Tomato Soup. Simply Scratch will be the must-have bible to cooking beyond the box and can. Featuring everyday ingredients, a down-to-earth approach, and family recipes, Simply Scratch proves cooking from scratch can be affordable, simple, fun, and?of course?absolutely delicious.

This is winsome quick and simple and really tasty. "Recipe:" ~ Slice a bunch of veggies - eggplant, zucchini, 3-4 unpeeled potatoes, onion, a yoke of garlic cloves, 3-4 tomatoes... Replacing the eggplant with a block of firm tofu is nice too! (Maybe marinate it in something.) ~ Mix a spoonful of mustard with 2.5 dl (1 cup) of implant cream (soy, oat or the like). ~ Place the veggie slices (tomatoes on top) in the casserole and pour mustard-cream on each layer, along with pepper or thyme, and some cautiously. ~ Put soy cheese on top if you like. This is good without cheese as well. ~ Heat the oven to about 225 degrees centigrade and leave the casserole in there for 50-60 minutes. ~ Be available for with anything like pasta / quinoa / etc. And bread, to sponge up all the mustardy sauce. :9 -------------------------- Vegan FAQ! :) The Web Site the Meat Industry Doesn't Miss You to See. Turkey a la Majesty a la Alyss
Turkey a la Majesty a la Alyss

Yes yes, it's Thanksgiving Turkey Leftover Period! Everyone's favorite time of year, right? Yeah, me neither :) I actually am not terribly fond of turkey. I mean, I eat it every year and dig it when I do. I have never, ever, though, thought "I'd like turkey tonight". Never, not once. All that may change with this recipe (OK, it probably won't - I'll make this with chicken next together :) It's a turkey variation of the classic from the Joy of Cooking called Chicken A La King. And it's good... real good. I've been doing a little research to experience out just what is the difference between an a la King, a Tetrazzini and a pot pie filling. Turns out, not much. A la King sauce is often enriched with an extra egg yolk and/or cream, and the Tetrazzini is often mixed with spaghetti and baked like a casserole while the pot pie filler usually has potatoes and other extra vegetables in it. Other than that, same same same thing :) And here's the way I made it. I'm calling it a la King...
